Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis, the team said in a statement, and will undergo surgery later on Wednesday.
The team said he experienced abdominal pain this morning before getting evaluated.
McCarthy, according to the statement, is expected to be released from the hospital today and still plans on coaching this weekend vs. the Eagles.
The team said that its three coordinators will run practice until McCarthy comes back.
Under McCarthy's leadership this season, the Cowboys are 9-3 and pushing for the NFC East crown.

McCarthy, formerly the coach of the Packers, joined the Cowboys in 2020.
He has a 39-23 record in Dallas.
In Green Bay, he went 125-77-2 and led the team to a Super Bowl XLV triumph in 2011.
