Australia made a blistering start to their Cricket World Cup semi-final on Thursday, with it appearing to be a case of same old story for South Africa.
The Proteas, who have developed a reputation for being the bridesmaids of white ball cricket, won the toss and chose to bat first in Delhi.
But that decision looked a wretched one after 12 overs with the South Africans reduced to 24-4 following exceptional bowling from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
And cricket fans were quick to rub salt in the wounds of the unfortunate South Africans, taking to X - the social media platform formerly known as Twitter - to mock the Proteas.
'Crafting a better love story than South Africa's cricket team choking in ICC knockouts seems like a tough task,' one fan said.
Another posted: 'South Africa and Australia live up to their respective names. SA choking as always while Australia cruising through.'
'I don't even think it's about choking at this point,' a third fan claimed. 'South Africa are just cursed, voodoo dools and all.'
More to follow.
