Former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and ex-boxing champ Anthony Mundine have slammed Mitchell Johnson for his extraordinary swipe at David Warner.

Johnson penned an explosive newspaper column on Saturday questioning why Warner deserved a 'hero's send-off' after his role in the Sandpapergate cheating scandal and a run of poor form in Tests.

'Mitch's summary of it was a bit odd and left field,' Haddin said on his Willow Talk podcast.

'I don't mind past players saying, "OK, this is why I wouldn't have him in the team, this is what I'd look at".

'It looked like a bit of an aggressive attack on Davey's personality, which I don't think you need.

Mitch Johnson (pictured with wife Jessica) penned an explosive column on Saturday questioning why Warner deserved a 'hero's send-off' from his Test career

'Yes, you can have an opinion on what you think the team should be, but I don't like when past players go really hard in a personal angle to the players and it felt a little bit like that to me.

'Everyone's entitled to their opinions on selections.

'He attacked David and George on levels you don't want to see anywhere, to be honest. It left a bit of a bad taste in a few people's mouths.'

Former world boxing champion Anthony Mundine also ripped into Johnson for the attack, which he believes is 'un-Australian'.

'It's a low act [from Johnson]. Things should be positive. Former teammates, teammates, should stick together. It's un-Australian,' Mundine said.

'The same thing happened to me. When I retired from football, I went overseas to clear my mind and clear my head and [former Dragons captain] Craig Smith was giving me a bit of a hammering. He didn't know what I was going through.

'Why wouldn't Mitchell speak to him face to face himself first? There would have been a bit of a relationship there based on those five years [of being Australia teammates].'

Mundine also believes Warner does deserve the fairytale farewell he desires at the SCG next year.

Haddin lashed out at the aggressive attack on Warner's personality

Anthony Mundine believes the attack on Warner was a 'low act' and 'un-Australian' as he backed the batter's plans for a dream Test farewell at the SCG

'Dave's got the runs on the board,' Mundine said.

'The proof is in the pudding. It will be a fitting way to end his Test career. He deserves that.

'Mitchell should just own what he's done and Dave is a good enough man to forgive and move on. It's just another chapter in life.'
