Cristiano Ronaldo took to social media to make a two-word post amid Manchester United's late collapse at Chelsea on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag's men had stamped out the Blues' two-goal lead in through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes by the time the whistle blew for half-time, and a second goal from the former in the second-half all but sealed victory on the road after the weekend's draw with Brentford

But a late penalty conceded by Diogo Dalot handed momentum back to the hosts, and after Cole Palmer levelled from the spot in stoppage time, the boyhood United fan heaped yet more misery onto the Red Devils with a matchwinner struck just 82 seconds later.

Just moments after Palmer's winner, Ronaldo posted a photo of himself and captioned it: 'Happy days', with a green heart emoji.

And some fans immediately took notice of the timing of the post, claiming that it was not a coincidence.

Manchester United were defeated by Chelsea despite holding a lead with minutes to go

One said: 'Love the timing idolo, cook Ten Hag', in reference to the Portuguese star's beef with the United boss.

Another wrote: 'The timing', with several laughing emojis while a third mirrored similar views, saying 'Timing GOAT'.

Ronaldo left Man United by mutual consent in November 2022 after he had publicly criticised the club, the Glazers, manager Erik ten Hag and his team-mates.

His departure came two weeks after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, which saw his position become untenable.

Ronaldo had accused Ten Hag and United executives of trying to force him out of the club and said he had no respect for the Dutchman and felt 'betrayed'.

The 39-year-old joined Saud Pro League club Al Nassr shortly after and has thrived in the Middle East.

He scored a hat-trick in Al-Nassr's 5-1 thrashing of Al Taee on Saturday, bringing his tally to 26 goals in 23 Saudi Pro League games this season, and 56 in 60 since joining the club.
