Dana White has denounced the delayed stoppage in Jalin Turner's UFC Fight Night win over Bobby Green as 'one of the worst I've ever seen'.

Turner floored Green in the first round but continued pounding him for 12 seconds while he snapped in and out of consciousness until referee Kerry Hatley intervened.

It has left the MMA world incandescent, with the commentators in disbelief at the 'terrible' stoppage which put Green at unnecessary risk.

White said of the stoppage: 'One of the worst I've ever seen.

'The difference is we've had some refs say some dumb s*** in the past, like, 'I allowed her to be a warrior tonight,' and goofy s*** like that.

Green was gracious in defeat and said 'I'm so happy for you' as Turner got back to winning ways

'He knows he made a mistake tonight and does not feel not feel good about it, so it's unfortunate.'

He added: 'Definitely a bad stoppage. Very bad.'

The controversy, which overshadowed Turner's return to winning ways, has attracted ire from across the MMA community.

Michael Bisping, commentating on the fight for ESPN, said: 'He was face down, he was getting teed off on by a world-class, very powerful striker. Kerry Hatley is a great referee, but what the hell was he waiting for?

'Peoples' lives are at stake, their long-term health is at stake. That was utterly disgusting and disgraceful.'

'Bobby Green is a tough customer. Horrible stoppage by the ref!!!' wrote Derek Brunson.

'Horrible stoppage. That's crazy! Protect the fighter,' wrote Cody Durden.

'Hey ref? Are you there?' asked Brian Kelleher.

Green was honourable in defeat, saying in an Instagram story video: 'You win some, you lose some.

'I guess I shouldn't show people if you gotta' keep it G when you win, you gotta' keep it G when you lose.
