David Beckham is caught up in salmon storm as Norwegians claim the star was given special treatment for fly fishing trip to the fjords despite it usually being banned

David Beckham has found himself embroiled in a fishing scandal after jetting to Norway.

Last week the former England captain was filmed fishing in his waders by the banks of the Laerdal in southwest Norway, known as the “queen of salmon rivers”, because it is frequented by the country’s king and queen.

At a time when salmon fishing has been heavily restricted for most Norwegians in an effort to rescue declining fish stocks, the trip has prompted criticism of the local authorities and allegations that it may have used an expensive loophole in the regulations.
