An inquiry has been opened into Mayor Eric Adams’ Director of Asian Affairs following reports she was allegedly improperly benefitting from her government position.
Winnie Greco, 61, is a senior advisor in New York City, on an $100,000-a-year salary. She was accused of promising a job to an unnamed campaign volunteer in exchange for renovating her Bronx kitchen in 2022, according to a report by The City.
The Department of Investigations has now confirmed to the outlet that an inquiry into Greco has begun - after a referral from the mayor’s office was made.
Spokesperson Diane Struzzi said: 'We’ve received the referral and we are reviewing the matter.'

The City reported that Greco also asked for a $10,000 donation from a Chinese executive in exchange for access to a Chinese-focused government event at Gracie Mansion.
The two volunteers spoke to The City before the FBI raided the home of Adam's chief fundraiser Brianna Suggs as part of an investigating into an alleged kickback scheme.
The tech worker claimed he took up Greco's offer and she helped him land interviews with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs two months after he began working on her house.
The man was hired as a program coordinator in July 2022, and says Greco continued asking him to help clean her kitchen and remove debris from her home.
He told The City: 'I felt obligated to help her. Two weeks after I began working at MOIA, she said to me, "Do you know how much effort I made to get you hired?"'
According to the report, he was fired in June following a three-month warning. The man claims things turned south after he began refusing to help Greco.
When he was give the warning, he was allegedly told by his bosses to 'Be good to Winnie.'
The Chinese executive, on his part, told The City Greco asked that the donation go to a nonprofit she founded and claimed she has asked the same of at least five other donors.

Greco, who has a salary of $100,000, has denied the reports, according to The New York Post.
A spokesperson for City Hall described the former campaign volunteer as a 'disgruntled former employee.'
A campaign spokeswoman for Adams told The Post: 'Ms. Greco did not have a formal role on the campaign and has no authority to make promises to volunteers. A number of assertions made by The City in their article are simply incorrect.'
The serious allegations come after the FBI seized Adams' electronic devices following a raid on the home of his top fundraiser and longtime confidante Brianna Suggs, 25.
Suggs' house in the Crown Heights neighborhood was searched while Adams was on his way to meetings in Washington DC, forcing him to abruptly cancel and return to 'deal with a matter.'
The agents seized three iPhones, two laptop computers, papers and a 'manila folder labeled Eric Adams,' The New York Times reported. They also took seven 'contribution card binders.'
The agents also wanted records of travel to Turkey by any employee, officer or associate of the campaign; and documents related to interactions between the campaign and the government of Turkey, 'including persons acting at the behest of the Turkish government.'

After news of his devices being seized broke, Adams told CNN 'he has nothing to hide.'
'As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation — and I will continue to do exactly that,' he added.
Authorities are investigating whether the campaign conspired with a Brooklyn construction company and the Turkish government to funnel foreign money into the campaign's coffers, apparently through a straw donor scheme.
Neither Adams nor anyone in his campaign have been charged with any crimes.
