The Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina turned into a mob scene when Wake Forest beat rivals Duke - but Blue Devils star Kyle Filipowski was left hobbled as students rushed the court.
Almost instantly as the buzzer sounded on Wake's 83-79 win over their Tobacco Road rivals, joyous Demon Deacons fans sprinted onto the hardwood to celebrate their victory over the eighth-ranked team in the country.
But in the process, players were not able to clear the court in time and cameras captured one fan running into Filipowski unintentionally.
Speaking afterwards, Filipowski said he thought the contact was 'personal' and 'intentional for sure'.
An alternate camera angle from ESPN showed that the fan that ran into the Duke star was taunting him and wasn't looking where he was going.

ESPN just showed a new angle of the court-storming at Wake Forest where Duke's Kyle Filipowski was injured. Can clearly see where he hurts his knee as a fan taunts him while racing to midcourt. Unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/ABAsKC2kTI
— Kyle Boone (@kyletheboone) February 24, 2024According to Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, Filipowski sprained his ankle and the coach publicly asked, 'When are we going to ban court storming?'
Filipowski added: 'A bunch of hits on my body. This one was the worst of them. It's just really ridiculous how that situation is handled. I absolutely feel like it was personal, intentional for sure.
'They see a big guy like me trying to work my way off the court and they can't just work around me. There's no excuse for that.'
On the broadcast, play-by-play man Mike Monaco noticed that Filipowski was being helped off the court.
'That should not happen,' said color commentator Chris Spatola. 'That right there is why court storming should not happen.'
Court storming is one of the integral cornerstones of college basketball and often some of the most enduring images in the sport come from excited students running on to celebrate a win together.
While it provides an electric atmosphere, it also carries the risk that if the right precautions aren't taken, players could be hurt.
That's exactly what happened at 'The Joel' - which had its first sell-out crowd in seven seasons and broke an attendance record.
But considering that Wake Forest fans were immediately on the court when the buzzer sounded, it's clear those precautions weren't taken.

Earlier this season, Caitlin Clark collided with a court-storming fan at Ohio State
There was a similar incident earlier this year when Ohio State's women's basketball team upset the Iowa Hawkeyes women's team led by Caitlin Clark.
Clark was jogging off the court and crashed into an exuberant OSU fan who was running onto the floor at the same time. They both fell to the ground and Clark was eventually helped up.
She did not miss any game time. It's unclear if Filipowski will have the same luck.
If he does miss time, it'll be a massive loss for the Blue Devils towards the tail end of their regular season - with the ACC Tournament just about two-and-a-half weeks away.
Filipowski finished with a team-high 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the defeat.
The Blue Devils play in four days when they host Louisville.
