Newcastle boss Eddie Howe commended teenager Lewis Miley for his historic performance as Newcastle's youngest Premier League goalscorer.

Propelling the team to a 3-0 victory over a ten-man Fulham, Miley, a 17-year-old midfielder, entered the match as a first-half replacement for the injured Joelinton and broke the deadlock in the 57th minute.

His goal paved the way for Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn to secure the win by adding to the Magpies' tally.

Speaking after the match, Howe expressed his joy for Miley: 'I'm delighted for him. Today was his moment.

'Put in by Bruno's [Guimaraes] brilliant run and did he have the composure in front of the Gallowgate to score a massive goal in our season? He did, and I'm delighted for him.'

Despite the initial plan to manage Miley's playing time and provide some rest, the circumstances unfolded differently when Joelinton came off injured in the first half.

Describing the games challenges, Howe acknowledged, 'It was always going to be, even with 11 v 10. Today was never going to be free-flowing, buccaneering, entertaining football because of so many different reasons, the injuries we've got, what happened in midweek, the emotion we expended there.'

Miley's crucial goal came at a time when Newcastle struggled to break down Fulham's defensive resolve after Raul Jimenez's 22nd-minute dismissal.

Almiron doubled the lead within seven minutes, and Burn sealed the win late in the game.

Despite injuries, including Fabian Schar's early exit, and the emotional aftermath of Wednesday's Champions League exit, Howe highlighted the team's resilience and determination in securing their seventh consecutive league victory at St James' Park.

Newcastle found themselves out of the Champions League on Wednesday when they failed to hold onto a 1-0 lead against AC Milan.

Dan Burn found the back of the net to give the Magpies hope, though Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze sealed the victory for the visiting Italian side.

Their group saw Dortmund come first, followed by PSG to proceed onto the round of 16.
