Incoming US Women's National Team manager Emma Hayes says she hasn't given much thought to her new appointment due to her current commitment to Chelsea.
Hayes was confirmed as USWNT's next head coach earlier this month, meaning she will wave goodbye to Chelsea at the end of the season following a 11-year stint with the Women’s Super League club.
But after their Champions League draw with Real Madrid on Wednesday, the 47-year-old admitted she is not yet thinking about her next move given her priorities until the end of the campaign.
'You’ll know I haven’t given it much thought, because you can tell from my throat, I’ve been working on our next three games,' Hayes said.
'All my focus has been on tonight. I’ve got to do some work now for [the game against] Liverpool. As I said in the statement, my focus is here, for now.'
Emma Hayes says she hasn't given much thought to her upcoming role with USWNT
Hayes was recently named as the next manager of the US Women's National Team
But she is set to continue in her role as Chelsea boss until the end of the current campaign
'Of course, I’ll have communications with Twila [Kilgore], the interim head coach, but I’m focused on what I’m doing right now.'
Hayes is not set to begin her position as USA manager until the end of the season in June and will have four matches to prepare for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
Aside from the news of her upcoming position, Hayes also recently made headlines after calling out the ‘embarrassing’ officiating that she claimed ‘robbed’ her Chelsea team of victory against Real Madrid in the Women's Champions League.
Niamh Charles thought she had scored a 96th-minute winner, only for her goal to be ruled out for offside against Sam Kerr, who was deemed to be interfering with play.
‘We scored a legitimate goal with Niamh Charles three or four yards onside. It’s embarrassing,’ boss Hayes said. ‘I had to check why the goal was disallowed.
‘I then watched it back, Sam’s about eight yards away from the goalkeeper, she’s nowhere near her. I cannot understand the decision whatsoever. I think we’ve been robbed.’
Hayes was also furious that Real were given a penalty shortly after Kerr put Chelsea 2-1 ahead.
