England fans have urged Gareth Southgate to be bold and fast track a Championship star in the squad for Euro 2024, should Luke Shaw not be fit in time.

The Manchester United full-back faces a race against time to be fit for the Euros, as he battles to get over his thigh injury and then get enough minutes for his club under his belt to warrant making the squad.

The 28-year-old has long been Southgate's first choice left-back but with Ben Chilwell, Kieran Trippier and Joe Gomez available as backups, Southgate may not want to take a gamble unless Shaw can prove his fitness.

But some Three Lions supporters on social media believe the answer to Southgate's problems can be found at Championship leaders Ipswich in the shape of Leif Davis.

The 24-year-old has two goals and an astonishing 19 assists for Ipswich in the Championship this season and started all his 37 league appearances.

England fans want to see Leif Davis given a chance if Luke Shaw isn't fit this summer

Gareth Southgate faces a number of injuries doubts ahead of naming his Euros squad

While Shaw and Chilwell have been beset by injuries this season, Davis has only missed three games in the Championship.

He sat out the defeat against Southampton in September with an ankle injury and was not in the squad for the draws against QPR and Stoke on December 29 and January 1.

And his performances have got fans convinced he would be the ideal left-back for Southgate.

'I don’t care what anyone says, Leif Davis deserves an England call up if Luke Shaw isn’t fit,' the EFL Published account posted on X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

The feeling was echoed by several other users, with one writing: 'Leif Davis. Proper player. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the England conversation soon.'

Another added: 'Leif Davis should be in the England team or at least be given a chance', with a third suggesting: 'Leif Davis as England's left back if Luke Shaw's fit.'

Unsurprisingly, the Newcastle-born Davis received support from the Toon Army, with  fan writing: 'Leif Davis is England next left back Hopefully Newcastles next season as he’s a Geordie.'

Another user, meanwhile, believes the Ipswich defender will be a Premier League star next season, regardless of whether the Tractor Boys get promoted.

'Whether Ipswich go up or not, Leif Davis will play Premier League football next year. Contributes to so many goals for a left back.'

Davis cored his second goal of the season on Easter Monday as the Tractor Boys came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 at Portman Road, with substitute Jeremy Sarmiento scoring a 97th minute winner.

Davis put Ipswich ahead early in the first half with a thunderous left-footed effort in the first half, which was immediately cancelled out by Che Adams' equaliser.

Adam Armstrong put Southampton, who began the day in fourth place, ahead halfway through the first half before Nathan Broadhead levelled the score with just over 20 minutes left.

Sarmiento then scored with virtually the last kick of the game to spark bedlam at Portman Road and send Ipswich back to the top of the table with six games left to play.

The Tractor Boys are chasing consecutive promotions and are one point clear of Leeds, with Leicester two points behind in third place with a game in hand.
