England WAGs are set to fork out an eye-watering sum on private bodyguards at this summer's Euros, it was claimed last night.

The football players' partners are said to be spending £100,000 on private bodyguards for this year's tournament in Germany.

It comes after Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser issued a stark warning about the threat posed to her country by terrorists.

Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), an offshoot of ISIS, last week claimed responsibility for the deadly assault on the Crocus City Hall entertainment complex in Russia's capital, which saw nearly 140 slaughtered and hundreds more injured.

Ms Fraser said the incident had raised 'dangers to a new level' and confirmed Germany will be on high alert for the major international event, with temporary border controls to be introduced 'to prevent possible perpetrators of violence from entering the country.'

The partners, including Jack Grealish's girlfriend Sasha Attwood and Buyako Saka's partner Tolami Benson, are allegedly looking to hire ex-military specialists instead of the FA's security team.

England have been installed as the slight favourites for this summer's European Championship, ahead of World Cup runners-up France.

A source told the newspaper: 'They'll operate from a discreet distance so the group don't draw too much attention.

'It means they can enjoy more freedom and feel safer at the same time.'

A UK government spokesman said: 'Football fans all over the country will be looking forward to a summer of football.

'We are working with the German police to support a safe and trouble-free tournament.

'A UK police delegation will be deployed to Germany during the event and we will also be offering support and advice on how to engage with fans attending from the UK.'

The FA has been contacted for comment.
