Erik ten Hag says Manchester United will intervene if the hype around Kobbie Mainoo ever threatens to go to the player’s head.
Mainoo is emerging as the success story of the season, establishing himself as a regular for United and making a late run for the Euros after an impressive debut for England.
Everything about the 18-year-old suggests that he will take the accolades and adulation in his stride, but Ten Hag insists that United’s coaching staff will make sure he keeps his feet on the ground just in case.
‘We have discussed this before,’ said the United boss. ‘So far he handles it very well. If he crossed the lines, of course, I as manager and we as coaches, we will interfere.
'So far it’s not necessary because he enjoys football and wants to give his best and improve and have fun, play dominant and win the game.

'We are very happy for him and proud for the academy to bring up such a player. It’s a big compliment for the whole club, and for all the ones who worked with him during his academy time.
'It’s very good news for Manchester United.’
