An Ohio man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his pregnant sister, her new husband and injuring his own sun at a Labor Day picnic.

Jason Iverson, 29, was sentence to life in prison without parole by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Richard Bell on Wednesday for the 2023 shooting, reported WKYC.

Police said Iverson shot his pregnant sister Mercedes Iverson, 30, and her husband Norbert Carter, 31, as a result a 'family feud that turned into a deadly shooting' on September 4, 2023, at Stafford Park in Maple Heights.

Video played at the sentencing showed Iverson following his brother-in-law from the parking lot into a pavilion where he also shot his 13-year-old son.

'Lives were taken, lives were destroyed. Anything less than life without parole would demean the seriousness of these multiple offenses,' the judge said on Wednesday.

When Iverson arrived at the park around 3:15 p.m. and realized those family members were there, he immediately began to physically fight with them, reported WOIO.

Witnesses said they heard shouting near parked cars in the crowded parking lot before shots were fired,

Iverson shot his pregnant sister in the parking lot as her husband ran towards the pavilion, where Iverson chased him down and killed him.

Mercedes and her unborn child were taken to the hospital where they later died from their injuries and Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

As Iverson attempted to flee, but officers caught him and took him into custody.

'They deserved to live and I deserved to die that day,' Iverson said through tears during sentencing.

'I'm sorry. I'm sorry I tore everything apart. Whatever I was going through, they didn't deserve for me to take it out on them. I wish that you could all forgive me one day.'

Iverson initially pleaded not guilty to 17 counts, including aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault.

On March 13, he reached an agreement and pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated murder and one count of felonious assault.

'Jason Iverson violently gunned down his sister, her unborn child, and his brother-in-law at a church picnic,' said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley.

'In the process, he shot at his own 13-year-old son, grazing him in the face. Iverson displayed a horrific level of violence that day and today's conviction holds him accountable for that. My thoughts and prayers remain with the victims' family during this time.'
