Lamine Yamal sent shockwaves around the world of football on Tuesday night when he scored a stunning goal for Spain in their 2-1 win over France at Euro 2024.

The 16-year-old's brilliant strike from long range saw him become the youngest scorer in European Championship history.

Gary Lineker later declared that Yamal was 'football's next superstar', while Rio Ferdinand said: 'This young kid doing unprecedented stuff at this age is ridiculous'.

Yamal plays his club football for Barcelona, having come through the club's famous La Masia academy.

But are Barcelona the club of his heart, or could it be that he actually supports a team from England's Premier League?

After Yamal's moment of magic against France, Tottenham Hotspur fan Carly T took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an old photo of the teenage superstar alongside Lionel Messi.

Somewhat surprisingly, Yamal was wearing Tottenham tracksuit trousers in the picture, which was captioned: 'What a goal by known Tottenham Hotspur fan Lamine Yamal!'

One fan replied: 'No way this is real', while an Arsenal supported mocked: 'This is the closest spurs will ever come to a trophy.'

The picture later gained some traction via Reddit, where one comment joked: 'He stated in an interview a while back that Alan Hutton was his childhood hero so it makes sense.'

This was not the first photo ever taken featuring Yamal and Messi together. Back in 2007, as part of a photoshoot for a Barcelona calendar, Messi was snapped giving a baby Yamal a bath in a plastic tub.

Spurs already have a long list of famous fans, but should Yamal's name be added to that list?

Yamal will be 17 on Saturday, the day before Spain take on England or the Netherlands in the final of Euro 2024.

The Barca youngster will be hoping to add a second major title to his list of honours, having already earned a La Liga winners medal after making one appearance in the 2022-23 season.

He played 50 games for Barca in all competitions last season.
