UFC fighter William Gomis looked unwell as he weighed in for his featherweight fight against Jean Silva - and came in under weight.

Gomis weighed in at 143lb, 2lb off making weight for the Saturday bout at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro.

He had been tipped for a strong fight having won his last 11 encounters, with an overall record of 13-2.

Having seen two Gomis fights cancelled back-to-back, fans were looking forward to seeing him return to try and claim a fourth win inside the Octagon.

However, he was wobbling on the scales and has left fans confused as to why he depleted himself so much.

William Gomis came in two pounds under weight for his UFC 301 bout against Jean Silva

The fight could be called off because of how ill he looked and that is something to consider.

However, if the fight goes ahead, he won't lose any money - fighters are only penalised if they are too heavy.

Journalist Guilherme Cruz wrote on X: 'William Gomis did not look good on the scale but still made weight (143 pounds with clothes on) for a featherweight bout.

'Apparently he threw up moments before weighing in. Commission doctors were following him closely. Jean Silva, his opponent, made weight at 146 pounds.'

Gomis is a promising fighter among UFC's fresh wave of French signees and has won all three of his contests with the promotion.

Silva, meanwhile has only had one fight in UFC, beating Westin Wilson in the first round at short notice after Gabriel Santos had withdrawn.

Gomis is an 11-fight winning streak and has won all three of his UFC contests so far

Silva weighed in at 146 pounds and hopes to build on his easy win over Westin Wilson

The main event of UFC 301 will be Alexandre Pantoja taking on Steve Erceg with the flyweight title up for grabs.

Pantoja, the defending champion, is fighting in front of his home crowd with a record of 27-5, meeting surprise 10th-ranked challenger Erceg, who has a record of 12-1.
