Footage has emerged of UFC star Conor McGregor dropping his sparring opponent as the Irishman targets a sensational return to the cage next summer.

McGregor, 35, has not fought since his first-round defeat by Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021 - when he suffered a brutal leg injury.

The former two-division champion claims he will make a return to the Octagon in April following a three-year hiatus as he insists he is in for UFC 300. However, his long-term coach John Kavanagh revealed his return has been 'delayed' until the summer of next year.

Despite fans having to potentially wait until next summer to see the MMA superstar in action, it would appear that the Irishman's preparation for a return is already well underway.

The Irishman has recently spent time in Dubai training, as well as taking some advice from PFL featherweight star Brendan Loughnane.

McGregor uploaded a series of clips to his social media accounts, sparring with different partners.

In one of the clips, the former two-division champion lands a beautiful combination and drops his training partner with a left hand.

The Irishman's power and speed was on display throughout the videos, much to the delight of many MMA fans.

Thankfully, his sparring partner was able to get back to his feet and carry on sparring.

The UFC star is tipped to fight top lightweight contender Michael Chandler next year.

However, the American has admitted his frustration at the lack of movement of his planned fight with the Irishman.

He believes McGregor is 'trying to wait him out' in a bid to get in his head.

He is tipped to fight Michael Chandler - who has been training for a year - and is frustrated by the delays

'I’ve seen Conor talk about other opponents,' Chandler told the MMA Hour. 'I’ve seen Conor talk about different dates. I’ve seen Conor talk, completely dismiss me and act like to fight with me isn’t happening.

'These are all ways that these guys try to get inside people’s heads. Unluckily for them, your boy’s bulletproof, alright? So we’re good. So we’re staying with the plan.

'We’re right where we need to be. I’ve had a year, a year-plus now to think about and visualize knocking Conor out, watching all of his tapes, seeing the training footage that’s coming out. I see that he’s training, I see that he’s coming back.'
