Football legend expresses his disappointment as he has to pull out of Soccer Aid just hours before kick-off at Stamford Bridge

A football legend has expressed his disappointment after he had to pull out of Soccer Aid on the day of the game.

There is much anticipation ahead of Sunday night's high-profile charity match at Stamford Bridge, with a host of celebrities and former footballers set to take part.

However, one of the most prominent ex-players who was scheduled to feature now won't be involved in the game, with the reason for his withdrawal unclear.


The player was expected to be part of the Rest of the World squad. 

In last year's game, which was held at Old Trafford, the World XI prevailed with a 4-2 victory.

Former Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos revealed that he won't be able to play in the game. 

Carlos wrote on Instagram: 'Unfortunately, I'm unable to make tonight's Soccer Aid for UNICEF match at Stamford Bridge. Good luck to all the players - and remember to donate!'.

Former Tottenham star Robbie Keane, who is part of the coaching staff for the World XI team, sent a message to Carlos as he wrote: 'We will miss you my friend.'  

During his illustrious career Carlos won three Champions Leagues and four LaLiga titles with Real Madrid. On the international stage he won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 and also won the Copa America twice. 

He has participated in Soccer Aid on several occasions in the past.

Robbie Keane, who is one of the coaches for the World XI team, sent a message to Carlos

Despite Carlos' absence, there are still many significant names in the World XI squad, with Eden Hazard notably making his return to Stamford Bridge, while Petr Cech, Michael Essien and Alessandro Del Piero are also expected to feature.

Usain Bolt and Tommy Fury are amongst the other sports stars in the World XI squad.

Meanwhile, former internationals Ashley Cole, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott are in the England squad along with as Danny Dyer, Stuart Broad and Mo Farah.
