At least two rugby union coaches from the elite Wellington College in New Zealand have been issued lengthy bans from the sport after abusing a referee in a recent junior match.

The College's under-15 white side was leading Porirua-based Aotea College white 22-19 on May 25 when the referee abandoned the contest due to relentless abuse he endured from the sideline.

A witness at the game declared a parent of a student from Wellington College also verbally attacked the same referee, prompting him to end the match on the hour mark.

'The [Wellington College] coach called the ref a c*** about 10 times,' he told the New Zealand Herald.

'He was [repeatedly] saying, 'Are you f***ing blind ? to the ref.'

A witness also declared the coach in question verbally attacked students aged 13 and 14 (the College sports grounds, are pictured)

Wellington College is an all boys school which was established in 1867 - alumni include Melbourne Storm NRL enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona and footballer Leo Bertos

It is understood the fired up coach also labelled his junior players - aged 13 and 14 - 'f***ing idiots.'

Additionally, he reportedly was 'close to making some of his boys cry' due to his excessive sideline abuse.

Wellington College's executive director of sport Bryan Dickinson has confirmed at least two coaches from the under-15s side have been stood down for the next six matches following a judicial hearing.

The College's rugby program includes former All Blacks star Piri Weepu, who coaches the 1st XV.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Weepu was involved in the incident from the under-15s game.

Alumni from Wellington College include Melbourne Storm NRL enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona, footballer Leo Bertos and gold medal winning Olympic rower Phillip Wilson.

Dave Keat, the College's director of sport, said earlier this week the school 'did not condone bad behaviour on the field or sidelines.'

'We will send out a reminder to all our players, parents and community of the need to respect referees.....well, respect everyone really, and make any sporting event a safe environment.'
