Sidelined AFL poster boy Bailey Smith has shared the gruelling workout that helps give him the chiseled physique and ridiculous six-pack abs he's become known for.

The Western Bulldogs star, 23, is currently on a European holiday after his 2024 season was ruined by a shocking knee injury he suffered in December last year.

Smith has been working hard in rehab, frequently posting to social media snippets of the fitness drills he's doing to stay in shape.

On Tuesday, Smith posted a story of his workout routine on an assault bike - a low-impact, high-output cardio machine - that he recently completed while in Greece.

Combining the arm-pumping action of a cross-country ski machine with the leg-busting power of cycling, the assault bike is a favourite with celebrities including Cameron Diaz, Jessica Biel and Jason Statham.

'Off legs session' he captioned the photo of himself in the gym after a workout.

Smith begins the workout with a five-minute-warm up of varying intensity.

He then goes flat-out for 30 seconds on followed by 30 seconds of rest - and does this eight times.

Smith then has two minutes rest, before doing 40 seconds on, followed by 20 seconds rest - which he does eight times.

Smith has five minutes rest before doing 30 seconds on, followed by 15 seconds off, followed by 60 seconds on, followed by 30 seconds off, followed by 90 seconds on, followed by 45 seconds off, followed by 120 seconds on followed by 60 seconds off.

He then has a one-minute rest and works his way back down through the sets again until he is back to the beginning.

Smith is well-known for his impressive off-field discipline and sapping training sessions - even before he made it to the AFL.

In July last year, he was spotted running extra kilometres around the Marvel Stadium playing surface after clocking up 82 minutes on the field in the Dogs' win over North Melbourne.

The Dogs star was looking in great shape prior to his knee injury, winning the club's 2km time trial ahead of what was shaping as a crucial year for his future in the league.

He has a strong connection to younger fans, having previously spoken about his mental health battles in the AFL spotlight.

Smith has played 103 games over five seasons with the Bulldogs, missing just six through injury and four because of suspension before his absence this year.
