Doubts have grown over Brandon Smith's future at the Sydney Roosters after he was hit with a breach notice by the club.

According to News Corp, hooker Smith slept in and turned up late to a team meeting after last week's loss to the Cowboys.

However, Smith said he was out having breakfast with his partner, unaware of the meeting, but Stan Martin - his manager - said he slept in.

It is unclear how late Smith was.

Last week's incident is the latest of a string of episodes involving Smith that has concerned the NRL club, with the team meeting saga causing drama in Bondi.

The hooker was reportedly late to a team meeting after last week's loss to Cronulla

But Martin has insisted it is unlikely that it will affect Smith's future at the club.

'After a recent loss, he got to a meeting late,' Martin said.

'The coach was angry. Brandon was the only one late.

'He slept in and got there late. I've spoken to the club. It's not a major breach.'

Smith, however, had a different version of events.

'This is ridiculous … I was out with my partner having breakfast,' he said.

'I left my phone at home because normally after a game we don't train the next day.

'But it's my fault and I've got to take responsibility.'

Speculation surrounding Smith's future has mounted for weeks, with it being reported that he has been dealing with other off-field incidents.

Trent Robinson was reportedly furious with Smith for his oversight

'I'm not sure if his future is in doubt,' Martin said, 'We'll see how things look going forward.

'He's keen to get on with it and finish the season well.'

Smith is one of the Roosters' highest-paid players, on $850,000 a year, and his form for the remainder of the season will likely determine whether the club keeps or offloads him next year.
