A former Colombian beauty queen who was reported missing in Mexico almost 10 months ago has been confirmed dead.
Ania Acosta, 43, was laid to rest Wednesday, Colombia's embassy in Mexico revealed in a social media post.
'It is with pain that we inform you that Ania Margoth Acosta was buried today,' the embassy said on X.
'A Colombian victim of trafficking and a femicide, but also of abandonment by the State. Today we failed a family, to whom we apologize, and we ask the judicial authorities for a prompt investigation.'

The mother-of-one moved to Mexico in 2022 in hopes of jumpstart her career as a singer. It is believed she was kidnapped June 21, 2023, in the western Mexico state of Michoacán.
A family member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity with Colombian news outlet Noticias Caracol, said that authorities shared a video that showed the moment Acosta was forced inside a vehicle.
Acosta's last contact with her family as around 1am moments before she went missing and told her mother that she was in the municipality of Morelia and was going to travel to Guadalajara, the state capital.
'She communicated with the mother as if saying goodbye, that she was leaving, but that she loved us all, as if to let her understand that she was in danger,' the family member said.
'They (embassy) apologize because they did not do enough to rescue her, it is something that cannot be described, losing a loved one.'

Mexico-based NGO, Strategic Human Rights Litigation, found that Acosta has been harassed by a man, whom she described to her family as a member of a criminal group.
The man reportedly pressured her to fight other people and forced her into having sex with him.
The Michoacán State Attorney General's Office located her body in a state of decomposition on February 20 and was able to confirm her identity through a Star of David tattoo on her chest.
Acosta won a beauty pageant in the province of Chocó in 2001 before she ventured into acting, appearing in the Colombian network series La Viuda Negra (The Black Widow), Las Detectivas y El Víctor (The Detectives and Víctor) and El Comandante (The Commander).
