Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been urged to 'do more' after making a slow start to life in the Premier League following his £72m move from Atalanta.

Hojlund has been United's standout player in their dismal Champions League campaign to date, netting five goals in four matches, but he is yet to score in nine Premier League outings.

The Red Devils are the lowest scorers in the top half by some distance after only finding the net 13 times in 12 games.

Former striker Louis Saha believes Hojlund needs to step up for Erik ten Hag's men if the club are to rescue their season after a difficult start to the campaign.

'He has to do more because this is the nature of his position. You can always do more,' Saha told Betfred.

Former Man United striker Louis Saha has urged Hojlund to 'do more' to thrive at Old Trafford

'You need to find your own solution because it's not about other players. It's not all about Rasmus receiving good service because he also has to work defenders, chase the ball and remain calm in his position.'

Hojlund is yet to get off the mark in England's top flight, while Alejandro Garnacho and Antony also haven't found the target and last season's top scorer Marcus Rashford has just one goal to his name.

Ten Hag has been reliant on goals from the likes of Casemiro and Scott McTominay to bail his side out of trouble, and it was Victor Lindelof that popped up with the winner against Luton on Saturday.

Saha is concerned by United's struggles in the final third, and wants the team to play at a higher tempo to get the best out of Hojlund.

'A lot of the forward players at the club are struggling at present and there must be something off with the tactics being deployed,' he added.

'Possibly it's the communication between the forward line, but there's something preventing them from doing better as a collective at this moment in time.

'With all due respect, they were expected to dominate and create plenty of chances against Luton on Saturday, but they didn't. They still weren't creating the space for the strikers and even when they try and play direct, it's almost as if it's happening in slow motion.

'Rasmus' skill and power isn't going to be enough on its own because he's not Harry Kane. He needs to be helped more by his teammates.'
