Who the winner would meet in the quarter-finals

The winner of this match is likely in for a difficult tie in the quarter-finals with Portugal heavy favourites to reach the last eight.

They meet Slovenia who made it out of England's group, but are given little hope of making the next round.

Though a much-changed Portugal side lost to Georgia in their final group stage game.

Belgium hoping for big games from Man City duo

Belgium duo Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne haven't enjoyed the best tournaments so far.

Doku has been electric on the wing but has let himself down with his final pass across the opening games of the tournament.

De Bruyne took the ire of Belgium fans after the goalless draw with Ukraine, after he told his team-mates not to go over to them after the final whistle, after they were greeted with jeers by their supporters.

Both men played huge parts for Manchester City in their Premiuer League title defence this season, but you feel more will be needed from them today if they are to stand a chance against France.

Pundits give their verdict on Mbappe

Former Spanish international Gaiza Mendieta has told ITV;

It's his first game as a Real Madrid player today, no pressure. Now it's about the big players to show up. He's always there wanting the ball. He's missed some chances that maybe normally he wouldn't but you'd expect him to score them today.

Roy Keane meanwhile has said that it's 'only a matter of time before he kicks into gear,' while Gary Neville feels the better teams in the tournament will give Mbappe more space so it 'might open up for him'.

Should Mbappe score today, it will take his goal tally across the Euros and World Cup - drawing level with Michel Platini who leads the way for France.

Meanwhile, he is only two goals away from becoming the third French player to score 50 goals in all competitions, after Olivier Giroud (57) and Thierry Henry (51).

France to test new formation

Mail Sport's Ian Herbert from the Dusseldorf Arena;

As trailed in L’Equipe for several days, France will use a new, untested 4-3-1-2 diamond with Aurélien Tchouaméni at the base, N’Golo Kanté and Adrien Rabiot either side and Antoine Griezmann at the tip with Kylian Mbappé and Marcus Thuram up front.
Griezmann, dropped in the last game v Poland, is key to France finding some creativity here.
His absence, after an indifferent game against the Netherlands in the group, was a big story in France. The first time since 2016 that he had been missing in a tournament. The No 7 is one to watch.

Unluckiest man at the Euros?

There are three players leading the race for Euro 2024's Golden Boot award - Georges Mikautadze of Georgia, Germany's Jamal Musiala and Slovakia's Ivan Schranz.

They have all scored three goals, the same amount of goals Romelu Lukaku has had disallowed at this tournament.

The former Chelsea and Man United man was taken off after an underwhelming display against Ukraine, but could this be the day where he finally gets off the mark at the Euros?

Rare public appearance for 2018 World Cup star

Paul Pogba is set to make a rare public appearance as a special guest for France's crunch clash against Belgium.

The former Manchester United midfielder has kept a low profile ever since news of his positive reading for a banned substance emerged in September 2023.

But Pogba is scheduled to attend the Euro 2024 quarter-final against Roberto Martinez's side on Monday evening after accepting an invitation to be part of the official contingent of dignitaries to attend the clash in Dusseldorf.

Mbappe: 'Playing with a mask is HORRIBLE'

It is safe to say that we have not seen the best of Kylian Mbappe in this tournament so far.

He broke his nose in the first game against Austria, forcing him to wear a mask, and he is also yet to find the back of the net from open play - the same striker who scored a hat trick in the last World Cup final.

Speaking ahead of today's game, he said;

I didn't think it would be, but playing with a mask is absolutely horrible.
I have changed [the mask] because every time there was something that wasn't right.
It is really difficult. It limits your vision and the sweat gets blocked up so you have to take it off to let it run away.
As soon as I can take it off I will do, but I don't have a choice. That is how my tournament is going to be. I can only play like that.
It is really annoying, but I have to just say thanks to the mask.

Belgium out to end dreaded run against France

Mail Sport's Ian Herbert, reporting from the Dusseldorf Arena;

The noise is starting to build here but a rather low-key feel to this game all day from two nations whose teams have not been at their best here.
The Belgian red wall is outnumbering the French contingent, 45 minutes out, though France have history on their side.
Belgium have not beaten their neighbours in a competitive game since a World Cup qualifier in 1981. And the match which is seared on Belgian souls is the 2018 World Cup semi-final – a 1-0 win for the French.

Great atmosphere building in Dusseldorf

Today's match is being played at the Dusseldorf Arena which has a capacity of 66,500 supporters.

Fans from both sides seem to be in fine spirits well before the match gets underway.

Players and staff from both sides have inspected the pitch and to get a feel of the atmosphere.

France might be the heavy favourites given Belgium's struggles, but when these two sides play it is normally close with two draws, one Belgium victory and two wins for France in their last five meetings.

Each of those wins there was only one goal in it - including their last meeting in the Nations League in October 2021 when Les Bleus won 3-2.
