Frustrated Bronny James admits he's 'in a little slump' as LeBron's son underwhelms AGAIN for the Lakers

Bronny James continued to stumble in Summer League play with his Los Angeles Lakers falling 99-80 to the Houston Rockets.

The son of LeBron James has been struggling to shoot the basketball and Friday night's 19 point loss to Houston was no exception.

James shot an appalling 3-for-14 from the field and an even worse 0-of-8 from 3-point range - finishing with eight points, five rebounds, two steals and three turnovers. 

'I just feel like I'm in a little slump right now,' James said after the game.

When asked about spending time in the G-League, he responded, 'I'm just looking forward to any basketball I play, no matter what level I'm playing at.'

While James played hard defense, he wasn't able to slow down Reed Sheppard - the third overall pick in the draft.

'I've known Reed since fifth grade,' James said. 'I know he's a shooter, so I was just trying to get in his body and prevent those 3-balls from going up. I was trying to pick him up full court and showing my effort to the GM and coaches.'

Sheppard shot 4-for-6 from 3-point range. His final statline was 23 points, four rebounds, five assists, and four turnovers on 9-of-17 shooting.

Despite the low-scoring performances he's had in the past, coaches for the Lakers still see potential in the 55th overall pick from this year's draft.

'Shoot, he's going to have a long career,' said Dane Johnson, the Lakers' Summer League coach. 'This is just the beginning. We just keep instilling [confidence], keep that in their heads. So we've got a long way to go.' 

When asked about James potentially spending time in the G-League, Johnson - who coaches the G-League's South Bay Lakers - didn't reveal any exact organizational plans for the rookie.

'I don't know about that yet, so I can't really comment on that,' Johnson said. 'But I think all these guys are going to be in the G League at some point -- the draftees.'

A number of Lakers coaches and executives were present for the game - including new coach JJ Redick and general manager Rob Pelinka.

Speaking on ESPN's broadcast of the game, Redick said that they want Bronny 'pressuring the ball'.

'I told him yesterday, I said, "If you get blown by, if you have 10 fouls, that's on me. I want you up pressuring the ball,"' said Redick.

The Lakers' next Summer League game is Monday against the Boston Celtics.
