Furious family of couple killed in car crash with wealthy anti-Israel protester claim 'she should be behind bars' and not gallivanting on campus after she was arrested at Columbia University

The family of a couple killed in a crash involving an arrested Columbia University pro-Palestine protester is outraged she is free to walk around campus and not in jail.

Isabel Jennifer Seward, 20, was one of over 100 protesters who were arrested for protesting when university president Minouche Shafik testified before Congress about campus anti-Semitism.

She is the daughter of high-ranking UPS executive William J. Seward and when she was arrested on Thursday she listed her home address as a $2.2 million mansion near Atlanta, reported The New York Post.

On September 8, 2020, Seward was involved in a car crash that killed elderly Vermont couple Chet and Connie Hawkins.

'The only reason she wasn't charged with murder is because she has a rich daddy. She should be behind bars,' the couples niece Eve Taylor told the Post.

Chet Hawkins (pictured), 73, was killed in a September 2020 car crash involving Isabel Jennifer Seward - one of the over 100 pro-Palestine protesters arrested at Columbia University

Connie Hawkins (pictured), 72, was driving with her husband when Seward's truck crossed the double line and crash into them

'She has no remorse, she received no punishment. She's just prancing around Columbia with her Ivy League privilege.'

'After basically getting away with murder, she's now promoting murder, with no understanding of what she's promoting. It's outrageous they haven't thrown her off campus,' Taylor said.

According to the Vermont State Police, the Hawkins were driving on Route 7 in Charlotte when Seward, then 16 years old, crossed the center line and hit their car head-on.

Connie, 72, died on the scene and Chet, 73, died five hours after the crash at the UVM Medical Center Hospital, reported Rutland Herald.

Seward reportedly gave at least three conflicting stories about her cellphone leading up to and after the crash.

The preliminary crash report said the speed limit in the area of the crash is 50 mph and Seward said she was driving 56 mph.

Police have also said they have video of the crash showing Seward's Toyota Tacoma making a sudden 45-degree turn and hitting the Hawkins.

'The footage clearly shows Vehicle #1 leaving its lane of travel, continue travelling (sic) north in the southbound lane of US Route 7, before colliding head-on with Vehicle #2. There did not appear to be any attempt by Vehicle #1 to correct its course prior to the crash,' Trooper Nate Quealy said in preliminary crash report.

Seward was never charged with their deaths, and received a $220 fine after pleading no contest to a civil traffic ticket for an offense listed as 'driving on roadways laned for traffic.'

The Rutland Herald reported that records show her mother paid the fine for her.

'Her truck went up over the hood of their car, and crushed my aunt and uncle. I want her charged with murder,' Taylor said.

Four years later, Seward was arrested while gallivanting on Columbia's campus and participating in pro-Palestine protests. It is unclear if she is a student at the Ivy League or its sister college Barnard.

More than 100 protestors have been arrested, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to DailyMail.com, with many spouting hateful rhetoric claiming they were Hamas and shouting 'intifada' at Jewish students.

Among those arrested for protesting at Columbia include Isra Hirsi, the daughter of 'Squad' Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

Tensions had been at boiling point since the protesters pitched tents on the university's south lawn at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, with several fights breaking out as they were met by pro-Israeli counter-demonstrators.

For the fifth day, pro-Palestinian students occupied a central lawn on the Columbia University campus.

The White House has joined a chorus of people across the political spectrum in slamming pro-Palestine protesters at Columbia University over anti-Semitic rhetoric at demonstrations on campus.

Seward was never charged for the crash and only have to pay a $220 fine, which records show her mother paid for

Over 100 students were arrested by the police and suspended by the university for demonstrating against the war in Gaza

Protesting when university president Minouche Shafik testified before Congress about campus anti-Semitism

'While every American has the right to peaceful protest, calls for violence and physical intimidation targeting Jewish students and the Jewish community are blatantly anti-Semitic, unconscionable, and dangerous – they have absolutely no place on any college campus, or anywhere in the United States of America,' said White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates.

The statement comes hours after a rabbi at Columbia University has cautioned Jewish students against returning to campus due to 'extreme antisemitism' amid a days-long protest in support of Palestine.

New York City's Democrat Mayor Eric Adams also targeted the protesters in a post on X - ripping them and the Ivy League university over the reports of anti-Semitism.

'I am horrified and disgusted with the antisemitism being spewed at and around the Columbia University campus,' he wrote.

'Hate has no place in our city, and I have instructed the NYPD to investigate any violation of law they receive a report about and will arrest anyone found to be breaking the law.'
