Vivid Sydney cancelled its drone show 20 before it was set to get underway on the closing night of this year's light festival.
Spectators who braved the cold to flock to Circular Quay on Saturday night for the Love is in the Air show were furious after the shock announcement was made because of 'forecasted weather conditions'.
'The show will not be rescheduled, as tonight marks the conclusion of Vivid Sydney 2024. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for understanding. Please be patient when exiting,' the post read.
The show was set to commence at 9:10pm but the notice, although timestamped at 8.43pm, was sent out on X at 8.52pm and Facebook at 8.55pm.
Organisers said beforehand they expected large crowds but that the show was also dependent on the weather.
One member of the crowd posted that they were sitting at Mrs Maquarie's Chair overlooking the harbour and that the 'weather is fine'.

Vivid caused controversy just a few days ago when huge crowds making their way through the city at the of the show caused a major pedestrian traffic jam.
Crowd members who had made the trek in for the drone show on Saturday voiced their frustration online.
'Saw a lot of people were still waiting for the show and not aware it has been cancelled,' one said.
'Skies clear from 6-8, then 20 mins of rain and it was clear again by 9.15. The crowds had already gathered, a bit of common sense and flexibility and you could have either flown the drones early or ten mins late … I'm sure the hundreds of families wouldn't have cared.'
'Waste of time, cancel it earlier and let people find other stuff to do,' a third said.
A fourth simply fumed that it was a 'swindle'.
'Paid hundreds for a cruise on the Habour to see it,' said a fifth.
