There was fury in the England camp today at the emergence of yet another distracting off-field drama, as Kieran Trippier's wife set tongues wagging by sharing a cryptic message on social media.
Charlotte Trippier, 33, wrote in an Instagram story yesterday on the eve of the Slovenia game: 'Sooner or later you get over the s*** you swore you'd never get over and it's the best feeling in the world.'
The profile belonging to her Newcastle star husband did not come up in the list of accounts she was following this morning, leading social media users to claim she had unfollowed him - although Trippier still follows her.
Charlotte has decided to remain in the UK with her three children during the tournament, while WAGs that have travelled to Germany include Kyle Walker's wife Annie Kilner and - controversially - his former lover Lauryn Goodman.
Lauryn, 33, became embroiled in a paternity scandal earlier this year when it emerged the footballer, 34, had fathered her ten-month-old daughter while being married to Annie, 32.

A source told MailOnline that Gareth Southgate will be furious if a WAG circus threatens to overshadow England's Euros 2024 campaign - and revealed that players' families had been warned by the FA about the importance of their domestic troubles not leaking out during the Euros because of the impact this might have on their performances.
The source said: 'Gareth Southgate and the FA will be furious that their approach of trying to keep personal news about the players from appearing in the media during the Euros has seemingly failed.
'The FA has made a big attempt to keep a lid on things, especially when it comes to Kyle Walker but they've not been able to stop it, which will be very frustrating for them. It's actually been a bit of a disaster because first you had Lauryn Goodman going to Germany and now there's all this speculation surrounding Trippier.'
A second source revealed: 'All the close relatives of the England players were strictly told that news about their personal lives had to be kept out of the media because it could affect team morale and performance.
'Some people have gone out of their way to get media attention during the Euros. Southgate will be furious because they've not been able to keep down some of this noise, which is bound to affect some of the players.'
The source revealed that Lauryn Goodman, Kyle Walker's former lover, has already indicated that she may travel to Germany this weekend for the team's round of 16 match.

Further posts in her Instagram story yesterday - which included the caption 'the sun is shining, happy Monday' - show the WAG sitting in the car listening to music while she waits to pick up her children from school.
Instead of travelling to Germany, Charlotte spent last Friday at popular Newcastle fair The Hoppings, sharing snaps on her Instagram of her day out with the couple's three children.

Kieran is staying with the rest of the England team at a luxury hotel near Weimar, where he was seen smiling happily during training yesterday, with a wedding ring visible on his left hand.
The star has so far started both Three Lions' games in Germany at the European Championship, though those have come out of position at left back.
He is set to make it three for three tonight as well, despite some concerns over his workload as he continues to fight back from a calf injury that interrupted the end of his 2023-24 campaign.
Footage emerged last year of Trippier enjoying a lively night out at Cosy Joes karaoke bar in Newcastle to toast his team making the Champions League while his wife was away in Spain.
In a video obtained by The Sun on Sunday, he was seen cuddling a woman before wrapping his arms around her and picking her up by the bottom as she smiled and giggled.
An onlooker said: 'They looked very cosy. They were clearly having a great time. It appeared there was a lot of horseplay and, at one point, a woman even jumped on his back.'
Trippier would deny he is a party animal though, and earlier this month described his 'boring' lifestyle while appearing on The Overlap podcast with Gary Neville.
He said: 'I'm a quiet guy now really, I just train and go home to my kids and my missus. I'm just committed to football.'
The defender added that he had recently watched the popular Netflix series Griselda.
The luxury resort where England are playing is sealed off from public view and affords the star players the ultimate privacy.
While Gareth Southgate has sought to keep the WAGs at bay, he allowed them to visit the camp for 24 hours last Friday, with those in attendance including Lewis Dunk's girlfriend Abi Yaxley, Jordan Pickford's wife Megan Davison and Ellie Alderson, the partner of Ollie Watkins.

One WAG who did not get an invite was Kyle Walker's influencer ex Lauryn Goodman, who took to Instagram to share a message exchange following her controversial appearance at the match against Denmark.
She shared and captioned the message - which was sent to her privately - with a heart hands emoji.
It read: 'I would love to know if every other English fan has been questioned about why they went to the England game because there seems to be a lot of hate on you for going yet what is their reason for wanting you banned?
'Kairo has to miss out because it makes some people uncomfortable. The internet is wild honestly xxx.'
The follower added: 'I wait every month for your blogs, love how honest and real you are, keeping being you and doing what you're doing.
'Your kids will always know how amazing you are and how much you've done for them.'
Kairo is the son of Kyle, the England vice-captain and Manchester City star, whose exploits off the pitch have, in recent times, generated as many headlines as anything he's achieved with his boots on.
In January, it was revealed that Kyle, who is married to childhood sweetheart Annie, with whom he has four sons, had fathered another baby — a little girl — with 33-year-old influencer and reality TV personality, Lauryn.
Since then, there's been a bitter war of words between all three parties, as Kyle fights for his marriage and Lauryn battles for acknowledgment of her children by their father.
Unlike the rest of the country, he wasn't remotely bothered about the 1-1 draw against Denmark on Thursday: he just wanted to see his father as it was the first time he'd ever seen him play in the flesh.

Before then, Kairo had settled for hoping to find his father's image in a packet of stickers for his Euros sticker book.
'I can't tell you how excited he was,' Lauryn said in an exclusive interview with the Mail. 'He was jumping up and down.'
And it was for that reason that Lauryn was determined to take Kairo to Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank stadium.
Lauryn dressed him appropriately in his favourite outfit, a replica England shirt with his father's number 2 and 'Daddy' written above.
Lauryn revealed to the Mail that her main motivation behind the Frankfurt trip was to keep a promise Kyle had made to their son in 2022 — when she was secretly pregnant with their second child — and he was playing at the Qatar World Cup.
'Kyle told him on a FaceTime call that he would make sure he was at the next tournament because [Kyle] is getting older, and he knew there would perhaps not be any more opportunities.
'There was no way I wasn't going to take Kairo to the Euros,' Lauryn said. 'There was no way I was not going to uphold the promise that Kyle made to his son. This could have been his last chance so I wanted it to be something that Kairo could remember for ever.
'We are not here to please other people. It's about Kairo and what is best for him and what is going to make him happy.
'I won't be scapegoated or bullied and made to feel like a villain. My children are my number one priority and they always will be. Luckily I'm a strong woman and mother for them.'
MailOnline contacted Trippier's representatives for comment.
