Gary Neville was unconvinced by the decision to award Liverpool a late penalty in their 2-2 draw away to Manchester United.

With United leading 2-1, referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the penalty spot following a challenge from Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Liverpool substitute Harvey Elliott.

Mohamed Salah stepped up to score the penalty, with Liverpool securing what could be an important point in the Premier League title race.

Footage from Sky Sports showed Neville's immediate reaction to the incident, with the former United defender telling Jamie Carragher that he didn't think a penalty should have been given.

The incident divided opinion on social media, with some individuals agreeing with Neville that the penalty shouldn't have been given, while other were adamant that it was the correct decision.

The spot-kick was given following a challenge from Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Harvey Elliott

One United supporter agreed with Neville as they wrote on X: 'THIS IS NOT A PENALTY VAR IS USELESS'.

Meanwhile, another United supporter claimed that Elliott dived. They wrote: 'Penalty for what? Elliott dived before AWB touched him. Even in reality, AWB didn't touch him. VAR is useless...'.

Furthermore, another United fan agreed as they wrote: 'He was going down even before AWB touched him. Joke'.

In contrast, a United fan claimed that Wan-Bissaka 'Shouldn’t be making that challenge in the box.'

Another added that it was the correct decision to give a penalty: 'I'm united fan, and that's a correct pen call on us.'.

Liverpool had gone in front through Luis Diaz before United equalised courtesy of Bruno Fernandes.

Kobbie Mainoo put United in front but Salah's penalty ensured that Liverpool took a point from proceedings.

Following this result, Liverpool are second in the Premier League and are behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference.

Meanwhile, United are in sixth place, having taken 49 points from their 31 matches so far.
