Gary Neville jokes that Erling Haaland looked like he has 'never played football before' after striker's big miss in stalemate with Arsenal

Man City were held to a draw by Arsenal on Sunday but they could have snatched the three points had Erling Haaland put away his big chance in the latter stages of the game.

It was a game of few openings with Haaland well handled by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

However, City's star striker did find himself with a clear sight at goal in the 83rd minute but completely fluffed his lines.

A corner from the right was flicked on and reached Haaland, who was was waiting at the back post. 

However, the forward somehow failed to make contact with the ball, leaving Gary Neville almost speechless.

The Sky commentator took a few moments to get his words out before saying it looked like Haaland had 'never played football before'. 

Fellow pundit Roy Keane was scathing in his assessment of Haaland's display after the game.

He said: the levels of his general play is so poor. Not just today, I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be – in front of goal he's the best in the world – but for his general play for such a player it is so poor... he has to improve that.

'He's almost like a League Two player, that's the way I look at him. His general play has to improve, and it will do over the next few years.'

The goalless draw ended City's run of scoring in their last 57 home games.

It was also the third time that Haaland has faced Arsenal this season and failed to find the target. 

Liverpool's 2-1 win against Brighton earlier in the day means they are now two points clear of second-place Arsenal, with City a point further back in third.
