Gary O'Neil has hinted at a transfer fire-sale at Wolves as he warned that the club are not 'blessed with money to spend'.

The 40-year-old has impressed in his role as manager since joining the club two days before the start of this season.

There were fears over how Wolves would perform after they sold Daniel Podence, Matheus Nunes and Raul Jimenez last summer.

Wolves could finish the season anywhere between 10th and 14th, depending on how results go on the final day of the campaign.

O'Neil has warned fans that the club might be forced into selling players if they are to bring new stars in.

O'Neil says he won't be 'blessed with money' to improve his current Wolves squad

He said ahead of their last game away at Liverpool: 'We won't be blessed with resources as in money to spend.

'We have a lot of players out on loan, so hopefully some of them can come back and help us or we will be able to sell some and that will help us [spend].

'The owners have put in an awful lot of money in recent years and they're not in a position at the moment to put loads [more] in.

'So they'll be able to help with little bits but we won't be going out and signing £40million number nines.

'We have to be really clever and cute in what we're able to recruit. That's part of the challenge.

'Certain managers won't want to work under those sorts of circumstances and will think it's tough and difficult.

'But it's something I'm really looking forward to and relish.'I am sure there will be tough moments when I face criticism, but we dig in and try and have another successful season next year.'

There is expected to be interested in the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri, and the sale of one could generate Wolves the profit needed for O'Neil to add to his squad.

O'Neil's arrival came on the back of Julen Lopetegui's sudden departure of the club, due to the club's financial position.

Last week, he said that while he doesn't think there will be money available if nobody leaves, he added that the club are no longer in a position where they need to sell to balance the books.

He said: 'If we decided not to sell a big player there may be some bits and pieces we can do. We have some players out on loan that have value and we might be able to do some bits. The club is expected – in the foreseeable future, maybe not long-term future – to be able to fund itself so we need to be able to work with that.

'Of course these things can change so I'm not committing either way, but I wouldn't expect it to be a summer where we spend millions of the club's own money on players. I think it won't be the same as last year where we have to sell loads and make a huge profit, but I wouldn't expect it to be a spending spree.'
