Fans are convinced that Graham Potter has been using his Monday Night Football appearance as an audition to take over at Manchester United as he wowed viewers.

The future of the manager's role at United remains unclear with Erik ten Hag under increasing pressure following his club's dismal 3-0 defeat by Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Should the club look elsewhere, Potter would be one of the favourites for the job despite having been out of work for well over a year after leaving Chelsea.

He joined the Blues from Brighton in September 2022, however Potter lasted just a matter of months before losing his job in April the following year, but could now be ready to return to management.

And supporters were impressed by his work as he appeared as a pundit on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football for Bournemouth's game against rivals Southampton, with some calling for him to take over from Ten Hag.

Fans suggested that Potter's appearance could have been used as an audition for the job

'Graham Potter doing his job interview for United here,' one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter.

'It's got to to the stage where I'd take Graham Potter at United based on a 10-minute tactical analysis on MNF,' another added. 'It'd be better than the current dross.'

A third wrote: 'Graham Potter wheeling himself out on MNF when the United job's in question… He's not slick.'

Potter has distanced himself from any links to jobs since leaving Chelsea, and was coy when asked about taking the reigns with England earlier on this year. He also spoke on links to the job on his Sky Sports appearance.

When asked if he would be interested in an Old Trafford vacancy and if he held talks with United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe, meanwhile, he said: 'I think what I've read so far in the media, a lot of it is untrue and false. I think I'm the only coach in world football who's been linked with Stoke city and Napoli in the same week.

'I take what the media say with a pinch of salt. I've had lots of conversations with lots of people. For the respect of everybody it's best that I keep those private.'

Potter broke down Southampton's performance in their 3-0 defeat by Manchester United earlier in September alongside Jamie Carragher and impressed viewers with his analysis.

He advised Southampton on how to attack better in his analysis, and appeared to gain a few backers in doing so.

A number of fans on social media suggested that Potter would be a good fit for the club

'Big job interview with Graham Potter on MNF for the England job and Manchester United job,' another fan posted on X.

A second added: 'Bring Graham Potter to Manchester United immediately.'

United have insisted that they will continue to back Ten Hag, with it reported that it would cost around £17.5million to sack him at this stage of the season.
