Harry Kane scored a 30-yard free-kick to shatter the 40-goal barrier for the second time of his career.

The Bayern Munich forward smashed home his effort in a 5-1 win at Union Berlin.

Leon Goretzka, Mathys Tel, and Thomas Muller with two goals all chipped in to the rout, with Yorbe Vertessen getting a late consolation for the hosts.

It moves Kane on to 33 goals in 30 Bundsliga outings and 40 strikes in 41 games in all competitions, edging closer towards a personal record.

Kane hit 41 goals with Tottenham in the 2017/18 season as they finished third in the Premier League but he is on course to exceed that.

After a 40-yard free-kick, he needs just two more goals to beat his record of 41 in a season

If Bayern Munich can beat Real Madrid to reach the Champions League final, it means he would have seven more games from this stage to top up his tally.

He needs nine more goals if he is to beat Robert Lewandowski's Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a single season, which he nothced up in 2020/21.

Bayern's next fixture is against Eintracht Frankfurt before they welcome Real Madrid on April 30 for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Kane revelled in their 'unbelievable' 1-0 win over Arsenal on Wednesday, enjoying getting one over his former rivals from his Tottenham days.

Champions League qualification for Bayern is virtully sealed. They are 10 points ahead of fifth-placed Borussia having played a game more, but Dortmund only have five games left and the Bundesliga in on course to have five Champions League spots next season anyway.
