Hike nearly turns deadly for young couple as shocking video shows them unconscious, huddled in a dry river bed after running out of water

An unconscious couple have been rescued from a dry river bed after running out of water during a desert hike.

The man and woman were found huddled together in the Painted Canyon area of Joshua Tree on June 9.

At their peak temperatures reached a sweltering 100F on the day of the rescue.

Officers with Riverside Sheriff's Aviation raced to the scene in the sweltering valley after the man called 911.

He luckily had cell service and told operators that his girlfriend was dehydrated and weak.

But when the rescuers arrived, they found both of them collapsed with the shirtless man lying on top of his girlfriend.

Video shows the man being clipped into a hoist before his limp body is lifted into the helicopter.

The hoist is then sent back down for the woman who ascends with one of the rescuers.

As she is raised into the helicopter, the harsh and unforgiving landscape can be seen below.

The team can be seen working to revive her as she lies motionless on the floor of the helicopter.

The man was taken to hospital via and ambulance while his girlfriend was flown in a helicopter due to the severity of her condition

Her condition was so severe that an aeromedical helicopter had to fly in to meet them at the landing point to take her to a hospital.

Her boyfriend is then seen being walked into a waiting ambulance.

'That was a s***t canyon man,' the rescuer says as he hands over to the aeromedical team. 

He later posted footage of the dramatic recovery to Instagram in a warning to other hikers.

'Please remember as the temps increase take more water than you think you will need, have a hiking plan, and tell two people where you are going,' he wrote.
