Rishi Sunak's wife has posted a sweet Instagram picture of their two daughters and family dog out near Richmond amid rumours they will decamp to California

Akshata Murty shared the picturesque shot on her social media with the caption 'My home' earlier today.

Their two daughters can be seen walking down a countryside lane in North Yorkshire.

His wife's social media post comes after Mr Sunak previously faced jibes during his campaign that he planned to move to California after his predicted defeat.

Commenters were supportive after the former PM's wife Akshata Murty shared the image

The couple were pictured together at Downing Street yesterday as Mr Sunak gave his final speech

However, he attempted to squash the rumours during the G20 summit in June where he said he would stay as an MP for the full five years of a new parliament.

Later on he was challenged in an ITV interview during which a claim by Lord Goldsmith that he would 'disappear in a few weeks' was mentioned.

The then PM repeatedly rejected the idea saying: 'It's simply not true, I mean, it's just simply not true.'

Mr Sunak, when asked if he was going to stay in Britain, said: 'Of course, of course I am. Of course, and this is my home.

'I mean, my football team just got promoted back in the Premiership and I hope to be watching them for years to come in the Premier League.'

Mr Sunak moved to Kirby Sigston, a small village in North Yorkshire, with his tech firm heiress wife and two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, after the Tory leader was elected MP for the now defunct Richmond constituency in 2015.

His home in the area is a Grade II-listed Georgian Manor house on a sprawling 12 acres of land.

Mr Sunak flew back to London from his Yorkshire constituency and delivered a farewell speech to Downing Street yesterday after a catastrophic election result for the Conservatives

His wife stood behind him and watched on as he apologised to the country before the pair walked hand-in-hand to a waiting car and were driven away to see the King.

Despite the overall result, he won his Richmond and Northallerton seat with 23,059 votes and has promised to continue to represent the area in Parliament.
