As a modern dream home, a suburban 1960s bungalow might not normally seem to tick many boxes.

But despite its ordinary facade, a bungalow which has been extended and given a quirky makeover has been crowned Scotland’s Home of the Year.

The spacious property has been transformed into what one of the judges on the popular BBC show described as an ‘electrically eclectic creative home’.

It features an old school gymnasium floor, artwork crafted from duct tape, a zebra carpet and a contemporary wall mural.

Sense of fun with quirky soft furnishings sum it all up

The owners let their imaginations run riot

Anna McClelland and Harry Kinloch’s home in Milngavie, Dunbartonshire was named Scotland’s Home of the Year by judges on the popular BBC show

Yesterday, Anna McClelland and her partner Harry Kinloch, the owners of the bungalow in Milngavie, Dunbartonshire, spoke of their pride at winning the title from a shortlist of five.

The couple, both graduates of the Glasgow School of Art, moved into the house in 2011 and have combined its transformation with raising their daughters Lexie, 11, and nine-year-old Marley.

Ms McClelland said: ‘Our home is distinctive and unique because it’s like the inside of our heads and that’s also what makes it homely to us... but maybe not for lots of other people.’

Her partner added: ‘We were genuinely shocked to win.’ Judge Anna Campbell-Jones said: ‘This electrically eclectic creative home exemplifies what it means to truly make your home unique to you.’

The seventh series of Scotland’s Home of the Year will begin filming over the summer, while the 2024 competition is available to view on BBC iPlayer.
