Australia will earn £3.2million for winning the ODI World Cup, according to a report.

Pat Cummins's side overcame heavy favourites India in Ahmedabad on Sunday to secure their sixth World Cup title, winning by six wickets in front of well over 100,000 home supporters.

Travis Head hit a century, joined in a partnership of 192 by Marnus Labuschagne, who finished 58 not out in the run chase with Glenn Maxwell hitting the winning runs off his first ball.

The result meant India, who were tipped to win the trophy before a ball was bowled and found themselves even heavier favourites for the final having won every single game up until that point, had to once again settle for second place.

According to WION, the winners will now find themselves in the money with a hefty fee received from the ICC, with India due to be paid £1.6million - half of Australia's award - for finishing runners up.

Australia and India beat South Africa and New Zealand respectively to reach the final of the 2023 tournament, which saw England hand over the title they won on home turf in 2019.

Both nations are reportedly set to receive around £642,000 for their success, with the other teams involved in the competition, including England, handed a sum of around £80,000.

Each team was reportedly also awarded £32,000 for each win in the group stage, meaning India will have earned around £1.89million overall, and Australia around £3.42million.

England's dismal defence of their title will have seen them pick up just £176,000 of the £8million prize pool from their time in India.

The win was Australia's sixth title in ODI World Cups, last winning the trophy on home turf back in 2015

Jos Buttler will remain as England's white ball captain despite the disappointment of the World Cup, with the 33-year-old set to lead a new-look side in their tour of West Indies in December.

The squad will include the likes of Test team stars Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, with only Buttler, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Gus Atkinson and Liam Livingstone retained from the World Cup 15-man squad.

Head coach Matthew Mott has also been given a vote of confidence to stay in his role for the series having taken England to T20 World Cup success alongside Buttler a year ago.

England will take on the West Indies in three ODIs and five T20s, running from December 3 to December 21.
