Hull City have reportedly sacked manager Liam Rosenior just days after they missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs.

The Tigers finished the season in seventh place after losing on the final day of the season to Plymouth Argyle - who avoided relegation with the three points.

They were three points behind Norwich who made the play-offs in sixth, with the Canaries also beaten on the final day of the season. Norwich's superior goal difference would have made it tough for Hull to jump them even if they did beat Plymouth on the final day.

Despite missing out on the chance to compete for promotion via the play-offs, Rosenior was nominated for the Championship manager of the season.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna won the award, ahead of Leeds manager Daniel Farke.

Rosenior had just signed a three-year contract extension with Hull back in December

Rosenior had been with the Tigers since November 2022, and signed a three-year contract with the club back in December.

He helped the club to avoid relegation after arriving mid-way through last season, and was in the play-offs at the time of his new contract.

Hull had a disappointing end to the season with just two wins in six games as they were held to draws by Middlesbrough, Watford and Ipswich Town, before their loss to Plymouth.

After their loss to Plymouth, Rosenior told Hull's official website: 'It says a lot about the league that every single team that was battling against relegation won. It's a tough league.

'Plymouth gave so much energy into their performance – they ran, they chased, they tackled.

'We didn't come onto a good game in the first 20 minutes. Maybe we played the occasion a little bit rather than the game.

'There are tears in the dressing room from a few of the lads. Among the disappointment and the pain, I couldn't be prouder, not just of them but every single person connected with the football club.

'From where we've come from last season and what we've built, there's a real bedrock, a real foundation for us to go on and achieve in the long term for this football club.'
