Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas lashing the Gulf Coast and knocking out power for more than 1 million as the storm moves inland.

The storm came ashore as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda Beach around 4am Monday, the National Hurricane Center confirmed, bringing heavy rainfall, storm surge and gusty winds across the state.

Forecasters estimate there is a continuing danger of life-threatening storm surge inundation along the coast, damaging hurricane-force winds and considerable flash and urban flooding as Beryl moves inland across the lower Mississippi Valley.
