A mother-of-five has revealed her horror experience with an abusive partner who shot her four times and left her to die on the side of a road.

Melbourne woman Amy* was on holiday with her two kids and new partner Birsha* in Ethiopia to see her family as a way to protect herself from his wrath.

The couple met after Amy's loving ex-partner died from cancer and she was swept off her feet by the smooth-talking Birsha.

His anger would only come to the surface after she moved in with him, striking her with a hot iron and saying men in Australia get off easy with femicide.

Months later she would find herself alone in a car with him after sunset in Africa under the guise of seeing a mountain range before spotting a gun in his pants.

Amy said that is when he uttered the ten chilling words: 'We are not going home. Today is your last day.'

A mother-of-five has revealed how she narrowly avoided dying at the hands of her abusive partner while on holiday to Ethiopia thinking she could escape his wrath

Amy moved to Australia in 2008 as a mother-of-three and was employed as a makeup artist and hairdresser before Birsha tore her life apart.

A number of red flags began to show up in their relationship as his abusive nature reared up, 7News reported.

She recounted Birsha saying that if she ever called the police he would 'cut (her) throat' before they could arrive.

During one incident, a neighbour heard Amy's screams and called the police, leading to her begging them to tell Birsha that she wasn't the one that called.

After Amy and Birsha had two children together, the topic of a family holiday was brought up and Amy realised he was suggesting countries with relaxed gun laws.

She suggested Ethiopia - where guns can be purchased - to see her family, believing they could help her and her children escape before he was able to kill her.

They arrived in late 2019 and were stuck in the country as international borders were shut during the Covid pandemic.

Instead of fleeing from Birsha's violence, he instead got Amy in a car and told her his plan to kill her and report her as missing before firing a bullet into her leg.

'She got out of the car and then he followed her around the car and shot her in the legs another three times as she tried to run away begging for her life,' a  GoFundMe for Amy reads.

He shot her four times in the legs to and left her for dead on a rural road, only for farmers to come to her aid and take her to hospital where she narrowly survived

'Amy fell to the ground and started to lose consciousness as he drove off leaving her for dead.

'Thankfully a good Samaritan found her after hearing gunshots, called for help, wrapped her legs up with his clothes and got her to a hospital where time was crucial.'

Amy needed 21 blood transfusions and spent six hours in surgery to remove the bullets, however one is still lodged in her leg.

She is now left disabled by the attack with 'chunks of her muscle and tissue missing and having permanent nerve damage'.

Her family was able to put her on a plane back to Australia, heartbreakingly without her children, with the hopes of reuniting with them once she properly heals.

However she can't afford all the medical help she needs and has been left living in women's shelters unable to properly look after her because of a lack of funding.

Amy, an Australian citizen, is still waiting for Centrelink and NDIS applications to be approved to help her.

A friend of hers has created a GoFundMe for Amy to help support her through her rehabilitation.
