A league source informed the Miami Herald that the Dolphins will be parting ways with one of the best players in franchise history. Howard was selected by the Dolphins with the No 38 pick in the 2016 Draft.
His release gives the Dolphins $18.5 million in cap space, which they can use on June 2 as it is a post-June 1 cut.
In 2023, the Los Angeles Rams traded Ramsey to Miami in exchange for a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter long. He appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins this past season while Howard played in 12.
However, the two cornerbacks only paired up for eight of those games.
With Howard's exit, cornerbacks Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner and Keion Crossen remain under contract for the 2024 season. Still, the Dolphins lack proven players in the position behind Ramsey.
On the same day, the Dolphins also informed defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah that he is getting released. His departure will save the team about $13.7m in cap space with a pre-June 1 designation.
