Jamie Carragher says going from Feyenoord to Liverpool would be 'a huge jump' for Dutch manager Arne Slot.

Slot has emerged as serious candidate to become Jurgen Klopp’s successor as Liverpool intensify their search for a new manager.

The 45-year-old is regarded as one of the most progressive coaches in European football and recently guided Feyenoord to victory in the KNVB Cup.

However, Carragher worried the Liverpool job may be too much of a 'jump' for the man who was considered by both Tottenham and Chelsea last summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool's clash with Everton, Carragher said: 'What I would say is (going) from Feyenoord to Liverpool is a huge jump.'

Slot has emerged as serious candidate to become Jurgen Klopp ’s successor as Liverpool intensify their search for a new manager

The former footballer went on to add: 'I think it shows that at this moment there's probably a dearth of real top managers out there.

'I don't think it's like Rafa Benitez coming in or Jurgen Klopp coming in. Benitez coming in from the back of two league titles and a UEFA Cup or Jurgen Klopp coming in from winning a couple of league titles with Dortmund, getting to a Champions League final.'

Klopp announced on January 26 that he would be ending his nine season stay at Anfield in May - much to the fans' dismay.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was the initial favourite to replace Klopp before deciding to extend his stay in Germany after winning the Bundesliga title.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorin - who has also been linked with West Ham - has also been discussed as another option for Liverpool.

Former Reds player Dietmarr Hamann feels Mourinho could also be another potential option - having been sacked by Roma in January.

However, Slot is a name the Liverpool fans have been getting excited about ever since an old video of his post-match team-talk resurfaced on social media.

The speech started: 'The reason we are where we are is because you work your ass off every single day and that’s the reason why you could beat this team here in their own stadium without our fans even being here.

Carragher says Slot lacks the experience Klopp and Rafa Benitez had arriving at Liverpool

'But, that again is an obligation for the upcoming weeks because you guys are going all to the national teams. Some will play, some don’t but we need to stay fit boys. This only a win. It’s not more than a win. It’s a big win but it’s not more than a win.

'We have a bigger goal this season and only winning for the first time in 17 years in Amsterdam. Our goal is bigger than that. So take care of your body, make sure come fit as you soon can back to the club so we can go for the last two months and make this season even more special than you already have.

'We’re not gonna be small. It’s only a win in Amsterdam. That what we did here. I would say before but that’s not completely true. So enjoy the win because it is a big win but take the obligation with you to the national team because we need you back fit. Because then we are going to make this season even more special.'

Just two months after Slot's impressive speech in the changing room after beating Ajax, his Feyenoord side won the Eredivisie title.

It remains to be seen who Liverpool with choose as their next manager, but Slot has certainly captured the fans' interest following his spell in Holland.
