Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff left football fans confused by a bizarre red mark on his forehead while he was filmed observing the national anthem ahead of the first Thanksgiving game.

Goff was stood with his team before their game against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field - and the red mark across his forehead left fans across the US confused as they tucked in to their Thanksgiving dinner.

'Jared Goff has the dumbest sunburn,' one fan wrote on X, while another compared him to Marv from Home Alone after he had been hit in the face with an iron.


'Jared Goff doing his best Marv impersonation from Home Alone,' the fan said.

Another wrote: 'Jared Goff forehead looking RIPE'.

Fans hilariously compared Goff to Marv from Home Alone after he got hit in the face by an iron

But there was a very simple explanation behind Goff's appearance - his helmet.

Peyton Manning had a similar issue during his playing days, often removing it to talk to television cameras and revealing what almost looked like a burn mark from it pressing against his head.

And the same thing happened to Goff, who had obviously removed his for the national anthem - only for the cameraman zoomed in on one of the star Lions players at an inconvenient moment. 

Goff's Lions team have been one of the surprise packages of the NFL this season.

They underlined their credentials on the first day of the season, defeating Travis Kelce's Chiefs - the Super Bowl champions - and are 8-2 ahead of the Thanksgiving game. 

But they made a disastrous start against the Packers, trailing by 20-6 in the first quarter.
