Jason Aldean dedicates performance of Try That in a Small Town to Donald Trump after Saturday's assassination attempt

Jason Aldean has dedicated a recent performance of his controversial hit Try That in a Small Town to Donald Trump.

The singer made the declaration at a concert in Nashville Saturday, hours after a 20-year-old gunman attempted to take the former president's life.

Aldean, in turn, made his allegiance known, cementing his status as a Trump supporter.

The song used to do so has surfaced as the 47-year-old's smash hit since its release last year, despite some claiming it contains coded endorsements of racism and lynching.

Aldean has denied these claims, and appeared to hit this point home as he made his performance Saturday particularly political.

The impromptu show of respect came hours after a 20-year-old gunman attempted to take the former president's life in Butler, Pennsylvania

'What happened in Pittsburgh today with out former president, President Trump - you guys know about this, right?' Aldean says in a TikTok showing the impromptu show of respect.

'President Trump's a friend of mine so I want to send this next song out to him,' he continued, speaking on-stage.

'We all know what's going to happen come November, so it's all good.

'Just goes to show you there's a lot of bullshit in the world, and that's kind of what this song right here was about, so this one goes out to the pres.'

A noticeably charged version of the three-minute single ensued, after Aldean raised his fist to rile up the crowd - as Trump had did shortly before.

The president's show of defiance came in front of a different crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, after having a piece of his ear pierced by a bullet meant for his head.

He was then whisked off-stage by Secret Service and brought to a local hospital where he was deemed well enough to be released later that night - surviving the first attempt on a US president's life since one on Ronald Reagan in 1981.

The GOP frontrunner went onto quell fears about his well-being in a statement to Truth social a few hours later, ahead of a now especially anticipated appearance at the Republican National Convention Monday.

Aldean, in turn, made his allegiance known, cementing his already widely known status as a Trump supporter. The song he chose, meanwhile, has been criticized in the past for supposedly containing racist themes, something he has continued to deny

'I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,' Trump, 78, wrote Saturday night.

'Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.

'It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country,' he continued.

'Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.

'I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,' he went on.

'Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!'

In an ensuing update aired after being spotted raising his fist yet again while landing in Wisconsin Sunday for the Milwaukee convention, Trump revealed he had completely amended his previously planned speech to address the attempt on his life.

'The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,' he told the Washington Examiner.

'Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches aimed mostly at the policies of President Joe Biden.

'Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now,' he claimed.

As photos of a bloodied Trump circulated, Aldean reiterated his support in a post to Instagram, writing, 'This is what a warrior looks like! This is MY guy.

'Donald ...we are thinking about you and praying for you and your family. God has a bigger plan for you, my friend, and I think we all know what that is by now.”

He concluded by calling the attempt on the former commander-in-chief's life 'cowardly.'

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, came within inches of killing Trump as he addressed supporters during the Butler campaign rally

Law enforcement and police stand over the body of shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, on the roof of an industrial building after his assassination attempt against Trump. Three  audience members were hit, one fatally. The FBI is investigating

Crooks had parked his vehicle near the rally site in Butler on Saturday before he scaled the roof of a nearby industrial manufacturing building, where he was shot dead by a secret Service sniper after firing several shots.

Fifty-year-old father of two and volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore has been named as the audience member who died trying to shield his family from the gunfire that broke through the Saturday afternoon.

Two other audience members who were hit, 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver were both in stable condition on Sunday.
