Jermall Charlo's return to the boxing ring after two years away is in serious doubt after his missed weight by 3.4lbs on Friday afternoon in Vegas.
The American still holds the WBC middleweight world title despite not fighting since his win over Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021, and he has since battled a back injury and mental health struggles.
At the weigh-in before his fight against Jose Benavidez Jr. - scheduled for Saturday night in Las Vegas - Charlo missed a catchweight by 3.4lbs, throwing the bout into doubt.
Benavidez tipped the scales at 161.2lbs, before Charlo stepped on at 166.4lbs and then even weighed in slightly heavier on a second attempt.
Officials are said to be discussing their options ahead of Saturday's fight night, according to reports, and if the fight goes ahead it appears Benavidez's camp will be compensated for Charlo's missed weight.

The mistake from the 33-year-old American comes just days after he stunned reporters by claiming he 'didn't need a whole bunch' of training, despite not having been in the ring for two years.
'I don't need a whole bunch. What more can I learn besides sharpening up? For this fight, I'm OK being a little rough around the edges,' he said.
