Despite failing to score a touchdown for 11 straight quarters New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh is refusing to make any changes at either quarterback or offensive play caller.
In what has become Saleh's weekly defense of struggling Zach Wilson at quarterback, New York's head coach said Wilson 'is actually playing pretty good. He is much better than he was a year ago' and that it would be unfair to blame the team's inability on offense on just one person.
'It's hard to make changes just to make changes, just to pacify something, especially when someone is not deserving of that,' Saleh said Monday.
'If he was deserving, I gotcha, let's change something. That's always [the case] for every position.'
Saleh did however say that the team is looking into potential changes outside of quarterback and play caller.
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said the team is making changes but not at QB or OC
Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has become public enemy no. 1 in New York due to poor play
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is also under fire after 11 quarters without a TD
Wilson's poor performances not only this year, but over the course of his three years in New York have turned him into a figure of concern amongst Jets fans.
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's inability to get the offense clicking has also turned him into the top contender to take Wilson's title as the most hated member of the franchise.
'I'm trying to look at everything globally, looking at coaches, looking at players, looking at the why for why things are happening,' Saleh said.
'And it´s not as simple as, right there - that guy right there is screwing up everything. And I said it (last) Friday, everyone´s got their hand in the cookie jar. We´re all taking turns.'
The Jets having gone 36 consecutive drives without a touchdown on offense. The last TD came in the first quarter of the Jets' 13-10 overtime win over the Giants on Oct. 29
Many fans and media are insisting the Jets should bench Wilson again and turn to either Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian to simply try something different since this clearly isn't working.
'When the reasoning is, well, just to give a spark, I don´t adhere to that,' Saleh said.
'You´re making a change just to make a change to see if it sparks something. I don´t know. I´ve never felt like making one guy the fall guy is going to make everyone around them better. Now, if there was something that was going to make things better, yeah, you always look at that.'
It is worth noting however that last season Saleh benched Wilson not once, but twice due to his poor play in favor of now Miami Dolphins backup Mike White.
