Jim Harbaugh baffles NFL fans by using bizarre analogy on day one of Chargers training camp

Jim Harbaugh baffled NFL fans on Thursday as he compared the start of Chargers training camp to 'coming out of the womb.'

Harbaugh, who formerly coached the 49ers, returned to the NFL ranks this offseason after nine seasons and one national championship with Michigan in the college ranks.

And the coach is clearly excited to get going with LA, though his words left some fans confused.

'The way it feels, it feels like New Year's Day,' Harbaugh said of the start of training camp. 'It feels like being born, it feels like coming out of the womb. 

'It's like, you're in there and it's comfortable, and it's safe, and now [pop sound]. You're out, you're born, the lights are on, it's bright, chaos. People looking at you, people talking at you. And it just feels good to have it happen.'

Fans had plenty to say on X about Harbaugh's remarks, with one saying, 'He’s so weird and I’m so glad HE IS BACK.'

Another added, 'This guy is senile,' with a crying emoji.

Another fan looked at the bizarre analogy in a positive light.

'The Chargers are letting Harbaugh be Harbaugh,' he wrote. 'Super Bowl soon come.'

Harbaugh, who coached the 49ers from 2011-14 and led them to a Super Bowl appearance, was hired by the Chargers in January after the franchise fired previous head coach Brandon Staley.

The Chargers finished last season 5-12 and Staley was fired after a Week 15 loss to the Raiders. 

Harbaugh, meanwhile, led Michigan to the national championship on January 8 over Washington, with the Wolverines comfortably winning 34-13.

His Chargers will play the first of three preseason games on August 10 vs. the Seahawks before opening the regular season on September 8 vs. the Raiders.
