Johnny Walker suffers BRUTAL knockout loss at UFC Saudi Arabia as Conor McGregor's team-mate is put to sleep by Volkan Oezdemir in round one... with fans suggesting the fight should have been stopped sooner

Johnny Walker was on the receiving end of a brutal knockout at UFC Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old Brazilian - who trains alongside Conor McGregor in Dublin - was floored twice inside the opening round against Volkan Oezdemir.

He got up after his first knockdown but was put to sleep moments later following a flurry of powerful shots from his Swiss opponent.

Walker already appeared to be done before Oezdemir nailed him with a huge swinging right hand as he lay on the mat.

Referee Jason Herzog was criticised for not stopping the fight before the final punch.

Commentator Michael Bisping even suggested that Walker was only 'semi-unconscious' when Oezdemir threw his last punch.

One viewer later tweeted: 'Is Herzog trying to get Walker killed ffs'.

Another wrote: 'Referees are there to protect the fighters. This Referee didn't do that and Walker got hurt when it was not necessary. The last shot was on the Referee.'

A third viewer added: 'Walker was clearly in all kinds of trouble. The referee was way out of position away from the power hand and with a poor angle to protect Walker.'

Concern for Walker was high as he lay on the floor following his knockout.

However, he was eventually able to get to his feet, much to the relief of those around him.
