Jose Mourinho is exploring a reunion with Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

The Red Devils will consider offers for the 29-year-old as they want to sign two new centre backs this summer.

Erik ten Hag's side made a £43million offer for Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite on Friday, and are expected to make an improved offer.

Mourinho was manager at Old Trafford when they signed Lindelof from Benfica for a fee worth around £31m.

Lindelof has gone on to make 259 appearances for United, but has struggled for regular starts in recent seasons.

Mourinho was sacked as United manager mid-way through Lindelof's second season at the club.

Since then he has managed Tottenham and Roma, before recently joining Fenerbahce.

Lindelof speaking in 2019 was very complimentary of Mourinho while looking back at the Portuguese manager's time at Old Trafford.

He told Aftonbladet: '[Mourinho] is, after all, one of the world's best coaches and he is supposed to have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football.

'He's a great coach and a great person, whom I owe a great deal. It was he who gave me the chance here, who brought me into everything.

'I have all the respect in the world for him and appreciate everything he has said and done for me, from scolding to a hug.

'Even if I did not agree, at the time, he has very great charisma, you had great respect for him. He's won everything. When he says something, you listen.

Meanwhile, United's first bid for Branthwaite saw them propose a fixed sum of £35m with a further £8m in add ons for the England international which was deemed unacceptable by Everton.

The Goodison club have been insistent the 21-year-old is not for sale but there is recognition that a huge offer would have to be considered against a backdrop of financial uncertainty.
