Jurgen Klopp confirmed he had spoken to Arne Slot, his replacement as Liverpool manager, during a farewell event to mark his nine years at Anfield.

The German manager has become a hero in the red half of the city for his work managing the club, winning the Champions League and Premier League among other accolades.

Now Slot is tasked with filling Klopp's big shoes from his official start date on June 1, and the former Borussia Dortmund boss revealed at the M&S Bank Arena he had talked to Slot about the task at Anfield.

Klopp told the audience: 'I spoke to pretty much everybody on the new leadership team. He's a really good manager.'

Elsewhere during the 'An Evening With Jurgen Klopp' event, fans started chanting the 56-year-old's name after watching an emotional highlights video - which left the German breaking down in tears

He also informed Reds fans that joining the club in 2015 was the second best decision he had ever made in his life - behind marrying his wife Ulla.

In January, he announced his exit from the club at the end of the 2023-24 season, and the arena event was confirmed as a special way for fans to get a final goodbye.

Comedian and Reds fan John Bishop hosted the exclusive event, which was presented by Liverpool Football Club, with tickets costing £37.

The night started with a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone performed by classical singer Alfie Boe, and also included a performance from The Lightning Seeds.

Daniel Craig, Trevor Noah, Paddy Pimblett, and Will Arnett all sent thank you messages.

But it was predominantly about the Liverpool faithful, who provided rapturous applause for Klopp as he emerged on the stage for the discussion and Q&A.

Slot left his role as manager of Feyenoord to succeed Klopp and take over as Liverpool head coach from the start of next season.

Slot, who has signed a three-year deal at Anfield, is coming into a Liverpool side that finished third in the Premier League under Klopp, and will have Champions League football next season after missing out on UEFA's elite club competition last term.
